Dive in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System in the Caribbean Sea. With 1.126 km (nearly 700 miles) along the coasts of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, is the second longest one in the world.
More than 60 species of soft and hard coral provide shelter and food for hundreds of fish and mollusk species, marine turtles, rays, sharks. The reef also works protecting the coastal areas from currents, waves and storms. This ecosystem´s ecological and economical values are unmeasurable.
Sadly, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the life support system for the region, is considered critically endangered according to the criteria of the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems. Help us to protect it by avoiding any kind of chemical products while you are diving, such sun block, mosquito repellent or baby shampoo. Every small act counts!
